Quilt

Sandra made this star quilt using strips from a Jelly Roll. The black background fabric makes the colours pop, and the piano key border uses up any leftover strips. Sandra chose the pantograph “Ginger Star”, it adds interest to the plain black areas but doesn’t take away from the pieced star. And her backing fabric is just gorgeous. It doesn’t show the quilting at all because it is a very busy print but I love the colours and the design.

Dieses Sternentop hat Sandra aus einer Jelly Roll genäht. Der schwarze Hintergrundstoff bringt die Farben schön zum Leuchten, und der Piano Key Rand verwendet übrig gebliebene Streifen. Als Quiltmuster wählte Sandra das Pantograph “Ginger Star”, es gibt den schwarzen freien Flächen Struktur, lenkt aber nicht vom gepatchten Stern ab. Und der Rückseitenstoff ist einfach nur schön. Das Quiltmuster sieht man auf der Rückseite zwar gar nicht, dafür ist der Stoff zu bunt, aber die Farben und das Design gefallen mir gut.

Alida started making this Magic Tiles quilt top a long time ago but never had it quilted until now. I recognized some of the fabrics in this quilt from way back… does anyone else remember the “Fossil Fern” line by Pat Campbell? Alida chose the pantograph “Fleur de Swirl”. For some reason my camera doesn’t like to take pictures of dark blue, the backing colour looks horrible and nowhere close to reality. But the quilting shows up nicely, so I am posting the picture anyway.

Alida hat schon vor langer Zeit begonnen, dieses Magic Tiles Quilt Top zu nähen, und jetzt wurde es endlich gequiltet. Einige der verwendeten Stoffe habe ich wiedererkannt… wer kann sich auch noch an die Serie “Fossil Fern” von Pat Campbell erinnern? Als Quiltmuster wählte Alida das Pantograph “Fleur de Swirl”. Irgendwie scheint meine Kamera blau nicht zu mögen, die Farbe des Rückseitenstoffs sieht auf dem Bild unmöglich aus und hat keinerlei Ähnlichkeit mit der Wirklichkeit. Aber da man das Quiltmuster gut sieht, poste ich es trotzdem.

Kim made this quilt as a gift and used the requested colours of “greige” as she called it… grey/beige/taupe. She chose the “Swirling Feathers” pantograph, and the result is a very elegant quilt. “Greige” is definitely not my favourite colour, it is no secret that I prefer bright and bold colours, but the quiet elegance of the fabrics in combination with the timeless swirls and feathers is very pretty.

Diesen Quilt hat Kim als Geschenk genäht, und auf Wunsch der Empfängerin hat sie als Farbschema “Greige” verwendet, wie sie es nannte… das steht für grau/beige/taupe. Als Quiltmuster hat sie die “Swirling Feathers” gewählt, und das Ergebnis ist ein sehr eleganter Quilt. “Greige” ist ja bekanntermaßen nicht so mein Ding, ich bevorzuge knallige, kräftige Farben, aber der Quilt wirkt sehr vornehm mit seinen zurückgenommenen Farben und dem zeitlosen Feather und Swirl Quiltmuster, und gefällt mir auch ohne Knallfarben sehr gut.

Cherri made this Trip Around The World quilt top a long time ago. She doesn’t remember exactly but thinks it was probably more than ten years ago. She had started quilting it on her domestic machine but gave up after a while. I don’t blame her, this is a king size quilt, and it is quite hard on the neck and shoulders to move all that bulk around and through that small machine. But now she wants to give it to someone, so she unpicked her quilting stitches and asked me to quilt it on Millie instead. She chose the pantograph “Fleur de Swirl” but the fabrics and also the backing are so busy that the quilting doesn’t show very much.

Dieses “Trip Around The World” Quilt Top hat Cherri schon vor langer Zeit genäht. Es ist so lange her, dass sie sich nicht einmal mehr genau erinnern kann, wann das eigentlich war, aber sie ist sich sicher, dass es auf jeden Fall mehr als zehn Jahre her ist. Sie hat damals auch begonnen, selbst mit der Maschine zu quilten, dann aber ziemlich schnell aufgegeben. Was ich gut verstehen kann, das Top ist sehr groß (King Size), was das Quilten auf einer normalen Nähmaschine sehr anstrengend macht. Jetzt möchte sie den Quilt aber verschenken, daher hat sie sich hingesetzt und die Quiltstiche wieder aufgetrennt und mich dann gebeten, den Quilt mit Millie zu quilten. Das Quiltmuster, das Cherri gewählt hat, heißt “Fleur de Swirl”, lässt sich hier aber nicht gut erkennen, da die verwendeten Stoffe zu gemustert sind, ebenso der Rückseitenstoff.
