Langley Quilt Show

Another weekend, another show… I felt good enough to drive to the Langley Quilt Show on Saturday and enjoyed looking at all the pretty quilts. Here are a few that spoke to me. You might see rainbow colours and a cat quilt again – I guess I am a bit predictable 😀

I thought this Treble Clef quilt was striking in its simplicity.

This cat quilt was hilarious. I especially like the cats poking their heads in from the sides.

And this one was very funny too. It is a bit hard to see in the picture but it has lots of seagulls that reminded me instantly of the flock in Finding Nemo.

I didn’t buy anything this time but was happy to see Bill and Heather from Heather’s Fabric Shelf in Kamloops at the Merchants Mall. Bill gave me my APQS beginner’s lesson a long time ago when I first bought my Millie, and I hadn’t seen them in ages. If you are on Facebook, I recommend following their shop page. Heather does a live video every morning, and even if you are nowhere near Kamloops, they are great entertainment. She also did live presentations of the other vendors in the Merchants Mall, including Angela from Cozy Cottons.

Quilt Show in Abbotsford

Last Friday and Saturday the Abbotsford Quilters Guild had their quilt show, and it worked out with my treatment cycles that I could go. I haven’t been to a show in ages, and it is always fun to see what others are working on and get inspired. I didn’t take a lot of pictures – I was busy taking in everything and chatting with all the people I hadn’t seen in ages, but here are some of my favourites from the show.

This darling ladybug quilt won second place in the challenge quilt category. For me it was the winner – I thought it was super cute, and it even has googly eyes!

And of course there were some cat quilts, which are always favourites of mine. For the “Cats in Space” quilt, we thought they were foxes at first. Somebody else suggested squirrels. Furry and cute in any case!

This “Grandmother’s Flower Garden” quilt had beautiful custom quilting.

I love bright colours, and I am always drawn to quilts in rainbow colours. I liked the modern interpretation with the grey background and the fantastic quilting on this one.

Rainbow Stars

And the last one was my absolute favourite in the show. Personally I wouldn’t even want to attempt a Bargello quilt, but they are sure stunning. This one had great fabric choices, and I thought that the way the Bargello curve extends out into the outer border was a very creative detail.

And of course we also visited the Merchants Mall. I am not a big shopper for stuff that I don’t need but I picked up a charm pack that I will turn into another donation quilt at some point.

We had a great afternoon at the show – I am so glad I was able to go. The Langley quilt show is in three weeks, so keep your fingers crossed that I will be able to go there as well!

Quilt Show Impressions

What a great show! It was a lot of work, especially for me with all the different hats I was wearing as guild president, merchant, doing the registration and having quilts in the show but it was also a lot of fun and quite successful. I think we had the most visitors to one of our shows ever, we ran out of ballots for the viewer’s choice, and the number we printed was based on previous years. We had quite a stack left over from the last show four years ago. The merchant’s mall was quite busy too, a constant stream of visitors coming through. I didn’t have much time to look at the quilts in the show but I came early on Saturday morning to take a few pictures. Click on the images for a bigger view.

PieceMaking in the Valley Quilt Show 2022

If you have been wondering what happened to me, it’s all good. I just haven’t had time to post here because our quilt show has been keeping me very busy. I not only did the registration for the guild and printed all the lists and cards but also foolishly registered a quilt that wasn’t even halfway done yet in early September. But I finished everything right on time, and the show will open tonight and run through tomorrow. If you are in the area, please stop by and say hello.

Quilt Show Impressions

I was busy all day with my booth but I went in early on Saturday morning to take a quick look at the show that I had helped set up. Quite a few quilts in the show had been quilted by me, and I tried to take pictures of the others, so I would have something to show that you haven’t seen here before. It was a great show, lots of amazing quilts. The only big quilt I had in the show was the finished sample of the Tuxedo Cats. Two blocks haven’t been published yet but here is a preview of what the finished quilt looks like.

Tuxedo Cats

My booth was right next to the entrance, and everybody had to pass me on their way to the hall with the big quilts. It started a little slow but around lunch time on Saturday things got very busy and stayed that way almost until the end of the show. Looking at the pictures of my booth, I realized that I have several patterns that I have been selling at shows but never uploaded to the website or even mentioned here on my blog. I will start working on that… we’ll see how that goes with the Christmas rush coming up. One gentleman was in awe of my Pansies pattern, he loved the colours and how realistic the flowers look, and after he had seen the show he came back to my booth because he wanted to vote for my Pansies as Best in Show 🙂 He was very disappointed when I told him he had to find another favourite quilt since my sample was not part of the actual show.

Encounters like this one make up for the negative parts. Somebody actually stole from me this time. Three patterns went missing and haven’t turned up. I also stopped someone trying to walk away with another three and made them pay for what they picked. It might have been an honest mistake but judging by their behaviour (which had made me watch them in the first place) I don’t think so. I usually just have one bin of patterns out for people to dig through, and that makes it easy to watch and pay attention to where the patterns go. This time I had three, apparently that was too much for the busy time. Next time I will be prepared and go back to just one bin.

But enough ranting, it was a great show, we had a lot of fun, and I enjoyed those two days very much. Here are a few impressions of the show, I hope you enjoy them as well.

Our Fabric Gems – Chilliwack Quilt Show 2019

I should have posted this yesterday but didn’t have time at all, sorry about that. I helped with the set up and hanging in the morning and then set up my booth. By the time I got home, I was ready for bed, and that’s where I went after having some food. We have a great show at the Alliance Church, if you are in the area please come and visit today. The weather isn’t going to be great, so being inside looking at beautiful quilts is a great way to spend your Saturday. Come and say hi, you can’t miss me, everybody has to pass my booth on their way to the main hall.

Quilts in the Valley

It’s quilt show weekend in the Fraser Valley! Today and tomorrow I will be at Quilts in the Valley in Abbotsford. Please come and say hi if you are in the area and see all the beautiful quilts. There will be lots of vendors in the merchants mall, and the raffle quilt is just a dream.

Quilt Show 2018

As you can probably tell by the silence, the Christmas rush is in full swing, and I have no time for blogging. I have come to the conclusion that I will never find the time to post pictures from the quilt show but here are some videos instead. Our guild member Norma H. took pictures of everything and spent a lot of time turning them into videos and uploading them to Youtube. So grab a cup of coffee and enjoy! And thank you, Norma, for all the work you put into this.

Piecemaking in the Valley 2018 Quilt Show

The big day is finally here! And I got (almost) everything done in time. The only thing missing are the labels for my quilts but I added some temporary identification (aka masking tape, don’t tell anyone… I *really* didn’t have time for real labels). If you are in the area, please come and see the show and say hi, you will find me today and tomorrow in my booth in the Merchants’ Mall.

Piecemaking in the Valley 2018

Moonlight

Last week Quilt Canada 2018 took place in Vancouver, and our guild had organized a bus trip on Saturday. I am going on a trip tomorrow and have no time to look through all my pictures but the award-winning quilts are all featured on the CQA website, click here to take a look. There were many fantastic quilts but I would like to show you one of them: “Moonlight” by Wanda L., one of my fellow guild members. Her beautiful swan quilt won a judge’s choice award at Quilt Canada, she is a wonderful artist.

I am taking the next two weeks off, and I don’t think I will have time to post during my trip. See you all when I get back!
