Hawaii

This wall hanging is the result of another challenge project with my German quilt group. The original idea was to make fabric books but the finished blocks were way too pretty to be hidden in a book, so we all ended up turning them into wall hangings. Every participant picked a theme and set the guidelines of what they did and didn’t want in their blocks. Then we each made the first block for our theme and passed it on to the next person. We usually had about one month to finish one block before the next exchange took place. When all nine blocks were finished we met for the final exchange, and all the blocks were revealed. While you would have seen some of the other project’s blocks in the meantime as they got passed on to you, you never saw your own project again until that final meeting, it was all kept a secret. My theme was “Hawaii”, and I started the project by capturing an image of a “Perfect Wave”. This is still my favourite of all group projects, lots of fun and an awesome result.

All blocks are original designs and were made using a variety of techniques by members of the group “Zick-Zack-Zicken” (from top left to bottom right: Beatrice, Ines, Susanne E., Bettina, Sabine, Renate, Kerstin, Susanne P., Anke)

The other quilt projects from this challenge can be seen on the group’s blog, unfortunately there are no tags but most of them were posted in September 2007.
