Dutch Roses

Well, last week turned out to be a bit wild with the flooding and mudslides in Southern BC, and I didn’t find the time to write another post. While we were not affected by the water directly, we couldn’t get out of Chilliwack for a few days because all the roads were closed, and I had to postpone an urgent medical appointment in Abbotsford until we finally made it there driving the Lougheed Highway on Friday.

Another week, another chance, and I am feeling much calmer now, so back to our regularly scheduled program. I am way behind in posting pictures, all of these I am posting right now were actually quilted a year ago. This is the next of Sharon’s quilts. After her first one was such a success, she set out to make quilts for her family for Christmas and probably broke a record in speed sewing. For this lovely blue and white quilt she chose “Melange” as the quilting design.

Skyline

Darlene is the “Bargello Queen” among my customers, and whenever she ventures out of her Bargello comfort zone, she comes up with another amazing quilt like this one. Isn’t it just fabulous? This modern quilt needed a modern quilting pattern, and all those circles were asking for something not too curvy. “Ripples on Point” with its soft, wavy lines creates a great secondary pattern of squares on point and was just perfect for Darlene’s project.

Sunrise

The next of Sharon’s projects was this lovely on-point log cabin variation quilt. It made me think of looking out of the window, watching an early morning sunrise, and “Sun Scallops” was the perfect quilting design to make it all come together.

Tula Pink City Sampler

This is already the second City Sampler that Ginger made and I quilted for her. The first one was a few years ago and can be found here. This one has different colours and also a different layout. We still thought the very geometric blocks needed some curves and went with the modern pattern “Champagne Bubbles” this time.

Sharon’s Sampler

Sharon is a fairly new quilter, and her progress is enjoyable to watch. She is not afraid to try new things and knows what she likes. Not many beginners would confidently have chosen a bold and bright colour combination for their first projects but Sharon picked red and black for her sampler quilt, and look how fabulous it turned out! Going with the red/heart theme, she chose the design “P.S. I Love You” to finish her quilt.

Jewel Box

This is another one of Wendy’s quilts, this one features the pattern “Jewel Box”. Doesn’t it look cozy in those blue checks and plaids? Jewel Box quilts are often quite colourful, but this monochromatic approach really speaks to me. The pattern doesn’t need much in terms of quilting, and a basic scroll pattern like “Wild Wind” works really well.

Stiletto

Wendy made this lovely quilt using the fabric line “Stiletto” by Basic Grey. This is another one of those quilts that I can look at for hours, and my brain will come up with several secondary designs. An elegant quilt that needed an elegant panto, and “Melange” was just the right choice for this one.

Paisley Blues

Blue quilts are always so pretty, this one was made by Donna. Although some of the fabrics have more traditional patterns like Paisley, the overall feel of the quilt was more on the modern side. There were also lots of circular elements, especially in the light fabric, and “Champagne Bubbles” was the perfect design for this quilt.

Brenda’s Garden

Isn’t this one of the cutest quilts ever? Brenda isn’t just a fantastic quilter, she also has a talent for finding the most charming patterns. This one is an Amy Bradley design, and there is so much going on! The birds and butterflies, the flowers and gardening tools, those adorable polka dot gumboots! I think you can tell how thrilled I was when I got to custom quilt this beauty. This is one of my favourite quilts ever. Be sure to click on the gallery pictures below for a better view.

Floral Log Cabin

Paige made this pretty Log Cabin quilt and chose “Paisley Curls” as the quilting design. Neither of us spotted the block with the wrong orientation until I sent her pictures of the finished quilt. Oh well, I am sure you have all heard the myth that Amish quilters always make a mistake in their quilts to show their humility, so Paige is in good company. And I think we all make plenty of mistakes without even trying, so there is no need to do it on purpose 😉 Nevertheless, it is a beautiful quilt, something to be proud of.
