This cute quilt in soft colours was made by Sharon as a gift for her new grandchild. The elephants are appliquéd by machine, using fusible web and blanket stitch. Sharon asked for a low density overall pattern for this project, and we chose the design “Raindrops”. If you are wondering why the rain is horizontal, I put the quilt on the frame sideways on purpose. We both thought the design looked better this way.
Diesen süßen Babyquilt in zarten Farben hat Sharon als Geschenk für ihr Enkelkind genäht. Die Elefanten sind mit Vliesofix aufgebügelt und dann mit der Maschine im Knopflochstich umnäht. Sharon bat um ein nicht zu dichtes Quiltmuster, und wir haben uns für “Raindrops” entschieden. Wer sich nun fragt, warum der Regen horizontal ist, das war Absicht. Ich habe den Quilt um 90° gedreht auf den Rahmen gebracht, weil wir beide fanden, dass das Muster so besser zu Sharons Projekt passt.
This modern quilt was made by Bonnie, and I was delighted when she asked me to quilt it for her. I had all these clever ideas what to do with the blocks but in the end none of them worked out because the squares are all different sizes. I decided to just quilt the white background with a modern filler design and add some texture to the animal panels. Isn’t that owl just adorable?
“Ein Spaziergang im Winterwald” ist der Name, den Bonnie diesem modernen Quilt gegeben hat, und ich hatte jede Menge Spaß beim Quilten. Ich hatte zuerst ganz tolle Ideen, was das Quilten der Blöcke anging, aber dann stellte sich heraus, dass die Quadrate alle verschiedene Größen haben, und irgendwie passte es letztendlich nicht zusammen. Also habe ich dann den Hintergrund mit einem modernen Füllmuster gequiltet und den Tierblöcken etwas Struktur gegeben. Ist die Eule nicht einfach knuffig?
Here is another Bargello quilt, this one was made by Darlene. It is huge, about the biggest size I can fit on my frame. And it is absolutely flat on the floor, I checked several times while taking the pictures because I could already see the optical illusion of the waves in my camera. Isn’t it just fabulous? The black, white and grey colour scheme appeals to me, and Darlene also pieced the backing in these colours. She requested a wavy quilting design, this one is called “Time Warp”.
Und hier kommt gleich der nächste Bargello Quilt, diesen hat Darlene genäht. Er ist so groß, dass er fast die Möglichkeiten meines Rahmens gesprengt hätte, noch größer wäre nicht mehr gegangen. Und er liegt ganz glatt auf dem Boden, das habe ich mehrfach überprüft, als ich die Bilder gemacht habe, weil ich in der Kamera schon die Wellen sehen konnte, aber das ist eine optische Täuschung. Ist er nicht einfach toll? Das Farbschema in schwarz, weiß und grau gefällt mir richtig gut, und Darlene hat auch die Rückseite aus Stoffen in diesen Farben zusammengesetzt. Als Quiltmuster erbat sie sich etwas mit Wellen, dieses Muster heißt “Time Warp”.
Have you ever made a Bargello quilt? I have never really been tempted to try the technique but I have quilted a few recently that were just beautiful, and I might reconsider if I ever find the time. This lovely version in purple was made by Jean. She chose the Celtic Scroll design for quilting, and it creates nice texture and movement across the surface of the quilt.
Habt Ihr schon mal einen Bargello Quilt genäht? Mich hat diese Technik bisher nicht in Versuchung geführt, aber ich habe im letzten halben Jahr einige Bargello Quilts gequiltet, und sie haben mir so gut gefallen, dass ich meine Meinung glatt ändern würde, wenn ich nur Zeit dafür hätte. Dieser Bargello in Lilatönen wurde von Jean genäht, und als Quiltmuster hat sie den Celtic Scroll gewählt. Dieses Muster verleiht der Oberfläche eine schöne Struktur und bringt Bewegung in die ganzen geraden Linien.

This beautiful sampler quilt was made by Cathy. Unfortunately the colours are really bad in the pictures. I have played around trying to make them look better but had no success, sorry about that. The pantograph I used for this quilt is called “Lapis”.

Patricia made this scrap quilt using strips and quarter-square triangles. The white background makes this my favourite kind of scrap quilt, a pattern I will definitely remember when trying to use up triangles. The pantograph we used is called “Fleur de Swirl”.

It is funny how February always seems to fly by. Yes, it is the shortest month but two days shouldn’t make much of a difference. But I am not unhappy to see it go, after a very mild winter with no snow at all the weather decided we needed some before we could move on to spring. At least it has been mostly sunny, and the snow on the mountains does look pretty. But now it is time for spring, and next week it is supposed to get warmer. I am keeping my fingers crossed. This month’s tuxedo cat is playing with a ball of yarn which brings a red dot of colour to the quilt. The face details need to be embroidered, even I didn’t try to appliqué them. The pattern is available for free download until the end of March and will move over to the store when the next block is released. Scroll down to the end of the post to download the pattern file.
Note: The pattern has a new format/layout. There is a reason for this change that I will explain at a later date. The cover page is now in landscape format, and the fabric requirements can be found on the left side (which would be the back of a printed and folded pattern).
Es ist schon komisch, wie schnell der Februar immer vorbeizufliegen scheint. Er ist zwar der kürzeste Monat, aber so viel sollten zwei Tage dann auch nicht ausmachen. Ich beklage mich aber nicht, nach einem sehr milden Winter mit gar keinem Schnee beschloss das Wetter dann, dass es ohne Schnee keinen Frühling geben kann und versorgte uns reichlich damit. Zum Glück war es meistens sonnig, und der Schnee auf den Bergen sieht schon hübsch aus. Aber jetzt wird es langsam Zeit für den Frühling, nächste Woche sollen die Temperaturen steigen, und ich drücke die Daumen, dass das auch stimmt. In diesem Monat enthält der Tuxedo Cat Block einen Farbtupfer, ein rotes Wollknäuel, mit dem die Katze spielt. Auge und Nase müssen diesmal aufgestickt werden, nicht mal ich habe versucht, diese Teile zu applizieren. Wie immer gibt es das Muster kostenlos bis zum Monatsende, und es wird in den Shop umziehen, wenn der nächste Block veröffentlicht wird.
Achtung: Die Anleitung hat ein neues Format/Layout. Das hat einen Grund, auf den ich zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt eingehen werde. Die erste Seite ist jetzt im Querformat, und die Liste der benötigten Stoffe findet sich auf der linken Seite (bei einer gedruckten und auf A5 gefalteten Anleitung wäre das die Rückseite des Patterns).

It is this time of the year again… Marian has posted the invitation to sign up for her annual Row Along. This is the fifth year that she is running this event. In 2018 I participated for the first time and had so much fun that I signed up again right away for this year’s Row Along. The theme this time is “Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales”. I am grateful she included the Fairy Tales as North American Nursery Rhymes are very much a mystery to me. I still haven’t figured out what Phoebe was talking about on “Friends” when she mentioned a woman living in a shoe 😀 I haven’t started drawing my design yet but I have decided on a fairy tale and I know what I want my row to look like. If you are in it for just the fun of the blog hop and want to collect the patterns, there is nothing you need to do right now other than note the date.

Hannah made this beautiful black and white log cabin quilt as a gift for her daughter. She sent me a picture after putting on the binding, so I can even show the finished quilt this time. I love how the yellow centre squares pop out against the black and white background. The pantograph we used is called “Celtic Scroll”.
