“Vistas and Valleys” is another one of Doris’s donation quilts. She made this one from a Layer Cake that she purchased because she liked the fabric of the top square. It had a design that looked like a topographical map that inspired her. She added a few fabrics from her stash that matched the theme. Doris didn’t want an intricate quilting design that might overshadow the map theme, and we finally decided that I would try to create more topographical lines with my stitching. We are both happy with the result. Doris loves alliterations even more than I do, and she always comes up with the best names for her quilts – “Vistas and Valleys” is just perfect.

“Vistas and Valleys” ist ein weiterer Spendenquilt, den Doris genäht hat. Dieser ist aus einem Layer Cake entstanden, den sie gekauft hat, weil ihr der Stoff, der oben lag, so gut gefallen hat. Dieser sah aus wie eine topographische Karte und inspirierte sie zu diesem Quilt. Abgerundet wurde er mit passenden Stoffen aus ihrem Vorrat. Das Thema “topographische Karte” sollte durch das Quiltmuster nicht verloren gehen, und wir beschlossen, dass ich versuchen würde, eine Art Höhenlinien zu quilten. Und das ist auch ganz gut gelungen, wir waren beide mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden. Doris liebt Alliterationen noch mehr als ich, und sie denkt sich immer tolle Namen für ihre Quilts aus. “Vistas and Valleys” heißt soviel wie “Aussichten und Täler” und passt perfekt.

Lyn made this quilt for her new grandson who was born in February. Isn’t this just the cutest pattern? It was designed by Vivika Hansen DeNegre and featured in Modern Patchwork Magazine last year. Lyn asked me to quilt the little guy’s name and date of birth onto the quilt, what a fun idea. The back is soft yellow Minky Dimple Dot… another colour that didn’t photograph well but after fiddling with it in photo editing software it looks good enough now for posting it here.

Diesen modernen Babyquilt hat Lyn für ihren neugeborenen Enkelsohn genäht. Ist das nicht total süß? Das Design ist von Vivika Hansen DeNegre und war im letzten Jahr in der Zeitschrift “Modern Patchwork”. Lyn bat darum, den Namen und das Geburtsdatum des Enkelkinds in den Hintergrund zu quilten. Die Rückseite ist kuschelig-weicher gelber Minky Dimple Dot, der sich mal wieder so gar nicht photographieren ließ. Aber diesmal habe ich es zumindest geschafft, die Farbe so zu manipulieren, dass das Photo vorzeigbar ist.
