Free Pattern: Apple Crisp
When I started quilting I wasn’t very fond of scrappy quilts. I approached every quilt I made in a very organized fashion, I always had a plan from the beginning all the way to the end, and that included the placement of fabrics and colours. I wasn’t comfortable with just starting something to see where I would end up. Luckily times change, and at some point I realized that a random placement has its charm too. And of course my pile of scraps kept growing and growing, and suddenly scrappy quilts didn’t look too bad anymore. Today I save every scrap quilt idea that I come across and like, and I have several projects underway just to use up all my leftovers. And I am very tempted to start another one. Jan Ragaller’s “Apple Crisp” quilt caught my eye right away, I love the colours, and it is amazing what you can do with two simple blocks in the right setting. The four patch and snowball blocks are easy enough to make, and the result is quite lovely.
Als ich vor Jahren mit dem Quilten begann, konnte ich mit Scrap Quilts nichts anfangen. Jeder Quilt, den ich in Angriff nahm, wurde von Anfang bis Ende sorgfältig geplant, und ich wusste genau, welche Farben und Stoffe ich an welchen Stellen verwenden wollte. Einfach mal drauflos nähen und sehen, was dabei herauskommt, das war nicht meine Welt. Aber zum Glück ändern sich die Zeiten, und irgendwann fiel mir dann auf, dass nicht immer alles bis ins Detail geplant sein muss, um gut auszusehen. Und natürlich sammelten sich immer mehr Reste an, und irgendwie müssen die ja auch verwendet werden. Heute speichere ich mir alle Ideen für Scrap Quilts, die mir gefallen, sofort ab, und ich habe mehrere Projekte in Arbeit, um die ganzen Reste im Zaum zu halten. Und jetzt bin ich in Versuchung, noch ein weiteres Projekt anzufangen. Jan Ragallers “Apple Crisp” Quilt fiel mir sofort ins Auge, weil mir die Farben so gut gefallen. Und es ist immer wieder erstaunlich, was man mit zwei einfachen Blöcken und dem richtigen Layout bewirken kann. Die Four Patch und Snowball Blöcke sind leicht zu nähen, und das Ergebnis sieht toll aus.
