When I started this project in January I wasn’t sure if I would be able to come up with a pattern for each month. And now it is suddenly November, and there is only one left for December that I still have to design and make. Wow, this year sure went by fast. I decided to make an umbrella for November. In rainbow colours. I think I am in my rainbow phase right now. But November is often grey and rainy, so cheerful colours seemed appropriate. For quilting I tried to give the umbrella some texture. The free motion umbrellas that fill the background are my own design.
Als ich im Januar mit diesem Projekt angefangen habe, war ich mir nicht sicher, ob mir überhaupt für jeden Monat etwas einfallen würde. Und jetzt haben wir schon November, und mir fehlt nur noch ein Design für Dezember. Das Jahr ist mal wieder ganz schön vorbeigerast. Für November habe ich einen Regenschirm genäht. In Regenbogenfarben. Da der November oft so grau und regnerisch ist, fand ich fröhliche Farben sehr passend. Und außerdem bin ich, glaube ich, gerade in einer Regenbogenphase. Beim Quilten habe ich versucht, dem Regenschirm etwas Struktur zu geben. Die Free Motion Regenschirme, die den Hintergrund füllen, sind mein eigenes Design.

This is another quilt that was made by Denise, can you tell that she loves lime green? The combination of lime, black and white is very striking and works really well, I like it very much. For the back we used lime Fireside that shows the quilting nicely. The pantograph she chose is called “Fleur de Swirl”, a very unobtrusive design that stays in the background and doesn’t take attention away from the bold fabrics.
Dies ist ein weiterer Quilt, den Denise genäht hat, und man sieht deutlich, dass Lime Grün eine ihrer Lieblingsfarben ist. Die Kombination mit schwarz und weiß fällt auf und gefällt mir sehr gut. Für die Rückseite haben wir Fireside Polyester verwendet, auch in der Farbe Lime. Fireside eignet sich hervorragend für das Quilten mit der Longarmmaschine und zeigt das Quiltmuster immer sehr schön. Das Design, das Denise sich ausgesucht hat, heißt “Fleur de Swirl” und ist eher unauffällig und bleibt im Hintergrund, was gut zu den auffälligen Stoffen passt.
My friend who wanted to help me with my booth at the quilt show this year unfortunately became sick two days before the show, so I didn’t really have much time to look at the quilts. But I did a quick tour and took pictures before the doors opened, and there were lots of really great entries. I always feel very inspired after visiting a quilt show and I want to make half of the projects that I saw and don’t even know where to start. I put the pictures together in several collages, there were just too many. And there is also a lovely video on YouTube, thank you very much to Linda B. for making it available.
Meine Freundin, die mir eigentlich an meinem Stand bei der Quilt Show helfen wollte, ist leider zwei Tage vorher krank geworden, so dass ich allein war und keine Zeit hatte, mir die Quilts in der Show in Ruhe anzusehen. Ich bin aber kurz durchgelaufen, bevor die Türen geöffnet wurden und habe Bilder gemacht. Es waren tolle Quilts dabei, und wie immer bin ich nach so einer Show sehr inspiriert, möchte mindestens die Hälfte der Projekte auch nähen und weiß gar nicht, wo ich anfangen soll. Die Bilder habe ich wieder in Collagen zusammengefasst, es waren einfach zuviele. Und ein Video existiert auch, ich habe es hier eingefügt mit Dank an Linda B. für die Arbeit, die sie sich damit gemacht hat.
I haven’t had time to look through my quilt show pictures yet. On Sunday I put the finishing touches on the “Stack O’ Jacks” pattern and blog hop post and came down with a cold. I took this as a sign that I needed some rest after the mad rush of the past weeks and didn’t do much on Monday. I also have to catch up on quilting, I concentrated on getting the patterns ready for the show and didn’t touch my Millie at all last week. So instead of quilt show pictures, here is a quilt that I quilted for a customer.
Ich hatte noch keine Zeit, meine Bilder von der Quilt Show zu sichten. Am Sonntag war ich mit Auspacken und Aufräumen und den letzten Änderungen am “Stack O’ Jacks” Pattern bzw. dem Blog Hop Post gut beschäftigt, und zu allem Überfluss machte sich dann auch noch eine Erkältung bemerkbar. Das war vermutlich ein Zeichen, dass ich nach dem Stress der letzten Wochen mal eine Pause machen sollte, daher habe ich am Montag nicht viel gemacht. Allerdings muss ich jetzt auch beim Quilten aufholen, in der letzten Woche habe ich Millie gar nicht angerührt, weil ich die Patterns für die Show fertig bekommen wollte. Also gibt es heute noch keine Bilder von der Quilt Show, sondern einen weiteren Quilt, den ich für eine Kundin gequiltet habe.
Der Quilt heißt “Slide Show” und wurde auch wieder von Ginger genäht, wiederum als Geschenk für ein kleines Mädchen, ebenso wie ihr letzter Quilt “Picnic“. Das Muster ist dem freien Muster “Film at Five” sehr ähnlich, nur dass bei “Slide Show” die Quadrate in der Mitte nicht aus kleinen Quadraten zusammengesetzt sind. Der Quilt ist bunt und fröhlich, die Farben liegen genau auf meiner Wellenlänge, und gequiltet habe ich mit dem Pantograph “Rose Garden”.
“Slide Show” is another one of Ginger’s quilts and will also be a gift for a little girl, like her last one “Picnic“. The pattern is very similar to the scrappy “Film at Five” pattern, the difference is that the big squares in the centre are not pieced in the “Slide Show” variation. The quilt is bright and cheerful, I absolutely love the colours, and I quilted it with the pantograph “Rose Garden”.
It is my turn today to show my project for the Enter If You Dare Blog Hop. A big thank you goes to Marian of Seams To Be Sew for organizing it and for inviting me to participate. This is my first blog hop but definitely not my last, I had a lot of fun coming up with a project for today. We had our quilt show here in town on Friday and Saturday, and I was busy both days as a vendor selling patterns and also as a guild member helping with the set up, so I didn’t want to do a big project and considered a mug rug. But inspiration doesn’t work that way… When I thought of doing something with shadow pumpkins on an orange background I realized that I wouldn’t be able to include a lot of detail in a mug rug. Okay, it would have to be a wall hanging instead. The pumpkins are based on actual pumpkins that my husband carved a few years ago, so the project is a family effort. I played around with the layout, and then the name “Stack O’ Jacks” suddenly popped into my head. I thought it was funny, so I stacked the pumpkins on top of each other and decided to keep them that way.
Heute bin ich an der Reihe, mein Projekt für den Enter If You Dare Blog Hop zu zeigen. Ein großes Dankeschön geht an Marian von Seams To Be Sew für die Organisation und die Einladung, daran teilzunehmen. Dies ist mein erster Blog Hop, aber ganz sicher nicht mein letzter, ich hatte viel Spaß daran, mir ein Projekt hierfür auszudenken. Wir hatten ja am Freitag und Sonnabend unsere Quiltshow hier im Ort, und ich hatte dort einen Stand, um Patterns zu verkaufen, und gleichzeitig bin ich auch Gildemitglied und habe beim Auf- und Abbau geholfen. Daher wollte ich kein großes Projekt planen und dachte erst an einen Mug Rug. Aber wie das so ist mit der Inspiration, sie geht ihre eigenen Wege. Ich hatte dann die Idee, Schattenkürbisse auf einen orangen Hintergrund zu legen, und mir wurde schnell klar, dass ein Mug Rug zu klein ist, um dort ins Detail zu gehen. Also mutierte der Entwurf zu einem Wandbehang. Die Kürbisse basieren übrigens auf echten Halloween-Kürbissen, die mein Mann vor ein paar Jahren geschnitzt hat. Während ich mit verschiedenen Entwürfen herumspielte, fiel mir plötzlich der Name “Stack O’ Jacks” für das Muster ein, und das fand ich lustig, also stapelte ich die Kürbisse aufeinander. (“Stack” bedeutet Stapel, und Jack ist hier die Abkürzung für Jack-O’-Lantern, so heißen die geschnitzten Kürbislaternen auf Englisch).

In meinem Kürbisstapel sieht man die Stiele der Kürbisse zwar nicht mehr, die Schablonen in der Anleitung sind aber für die vollständigen Kürbisse. Wer sie also nicht stapeln möchte, kann leicht einzelne Blöcke daraus nähen und anders anordnen, es sind viele Variationen möglich. EDIT 1. To celebrate my first blog hop I will have the pattern for “Stack O’ Jacks” available for free download until Halloween. In November I will move it over to the shop, so be sure to download it right away. Although the stems of the pumpkins are not visible in my stacked version of the design, the templates are for the whole pumpkins, you can easily make them as individual blocks and even turn them into a table runner. Or just pick one and turn it into a pillow. The possibilities are endless, and I hope you will enjoy this project as much as I do. This colourful quilt called “Picnic” was made by Ginger. I love the bright fabrics that she used for this project. It will be a gift for a little girl, and I quilted it with “Rhapsody”, a swirly floral design. The back is a cozy flannel that shows the quilting nicely. What a wonderful gift!

Today’s free pattern has been on my to do list for at least three years. I won’t be making it this year either, I simply have no time, but it’s so adorable that I will definitely keep it on the list. It is called “Itsy Bitsy Spiders” and was designed by Alisha Wilkins of AJ’s Bow-tique. My picture doesn’t do it justice, be sure to check out the original. The wall hanging features spiders made from buttons dangling from rick rack threads. It is not difficult to make but the result is very cute. Just one word of caution: she makes beautiful things but is obviously not a quilter. Please do not slap your borders on the way she does. I know I am repeating myself but proper border construction is one of my pet peeves. If you would like to know more, please click here.
Das heutige freie Muster habe ich schon seit mindestens drei Jahren auf meiner To Do Liste. Leider wird es wohl auch in diesem Jahr nichts damit werden, ich habe einfach keine Zeit. Aber es gefällt mir so gut, dass ich es auf jeden Fall auf der Liste lassen werde. Der Wandbehang heißt „Itsy Bitsy Spiders“ und wurde entworfen von Alisha Wilkins/AJ’s Bow-tique. Mein Bild wird dem Projekt absolut nicht gerecht, das Original sollte man sich auf keinen Fall entgehen lassen. Auf dem Wandbehang hängen Spinnen aus schwarzen Knöpfen herab von Fäden aus Zackenlitze. Es sieht nicht schwierig aus und dürfte auch nicht sehr zeitaufwendig sein, und das Endergebnis ist richtig knuffig. Eine Anmerkung habe ich allerdings: Sie näht tolle Sachen, ist aber ganz offensichtlich keine Quilterin. Daher bitte ich, ihre Anleitung für die Ränder zu ignorieren und unbedingt zu messen und die richtige Länge zu schneiden. Ich weiß, dass ich mich wiederhole, aber richtige Randkonstruktion ist einfach wichtig für ein gutes Endprodukt. Wer darüber mehr wissen möchte, bitte hier klicken.
This fall quilt was made by Pattie and she used many fabrics with leaves, most of them maple leaves. Choosing a design for quilting was very easy, she took one look at my “Maple Sugar” pantograph, and we didn’t have to look any further. It was a perfect fit, and the result is just gorgeous.
Diesen herbstlichen Quilt hat Pattie genäht, und sie hat dafür viele Stoffe mit Blättern verwendet. Die meisten sind Ahornblätter, und das machte die Wahl des Quiltmusters sehr einfach. Ihr Blick fiel auf “Maple Sugar”, und wir mussten gar nicht weiter blättern. Es passte perfekt, und das Endergebnis sieht toll aus.
