Preemiequilts 2019

Before going to Germany, I made another set of preemiequilts, using my tested and tried layouts. Simple patterns, not too many seams, only light quilting, those are the requirements of the German group that makes them and donates them to the hospitals. They are quick and easy to make, use up leftovers and are for a good cause. I am happy to take some with me whenever I go over to visit.

What a great way to help make this world a better place. What is the finished size for the preemie quilts? I am sure they are truly appreciated by the parents of the preemie, as well by the hospital. Awesome!

    1. Mine are always 28″ square. The blocks are 4″ finished size, and the two borders together add another 4″ on each side. There is a minimum size requirement, and long ago when we started there was also a maximum size but experience has shown that the maximum isn’t necessary. If someone wants to make a bigger quilt, the nurses at the hospital give it to a baby that has more problems and is expected to need longer treatments. It is a very good program, we have donated more than 10,000 quilts to hospitals in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

Thanks for the reply, Beatrice, on the size you make. Kudo’s to all who donate these little quilts.
