This beautiful sampler quilt was made by Cathy. Unfortunately the colours are really bad in the pictures. I have played around trying to make them look better but had no success, sorry about that. The pantograph I used for this quilt is called “Lapis”.

Diesen schönen Sampler-Quilt hat Cathy genäht. Leider sind die Photos nicht so gut gelungen, die Farben sind irgendwie nicht richtig, und ich bekomme das leider nicht besser hin, sorry. Das Quiltmuster, das ich für diesen Quilt verwendet habe, heißt “Lapis.”

Patricia made this scrap quilt using strips and quarter-square triangles. The white background makes this my favourite kind of scrap quilt, a pattern I will definitely remember when trying to use up triangles. The pantograph we used is called “Fleur de Swirl”.

Diesen bunten Restequilt aus Streifen und Dreiecken hat Patricia genäht. Durch den weißen Hintergrund liegt das Muster absolut auf meiner Wellenlänge, und ich habe es gleich auf meine To-Do-Liste für Restequilts geschrieben. Das Quiltmuster, das wir verwendet haben, heißt “Fleur de Swirl”.

Hannah made this beautiful black and white log cabin quilt as a gift for her daughter. She sent me a picture after putting on the binding, so I can even show the finished quilt this time. I love how the yellow centre squares pop out against the black and white background. The pantograph we used is called “Celtic Scroll”.

Diesen schwarz-weißen Log Cabin Quilt hat Hannah als Geschenk für ihre Tochter genäht. Nachdem sie das Binding angenäht hatte, hat sie mir ein Bild geschickt, so dass ich diesmal sogar einen fertigen Quilt präsentieren kann. Sind die gelben Quadrate in der Mitte nicht toll, wie sie sich von dem schwarz-weißen Hintergrund abheben? Das Quiltmuster, das wir verwendet haben, heißt “Celtic Scroll”.

This modern quilt with a three-dimensional effect was made by Ginger as a gift for her grandson. He not only chose the pattern himself but also the colours that he wanted in his quilt. The pantograph we used is the modern design “Bauhaus”. Ginger always pieces her backing and uses leftover fabrics from the top and sometimes even spare blocks that she ends up with.

Diesen modernen Quilt mit 3D-Effekt hat Ginger als Geschenk für ihren Enkel genäht. Der junge Mann hat sich nicht nur das Muster selbst ausgesucht, sondern auch die Farbkombination für seinen Quilt. Das Quiltmuster ist das moderne Design “Bauhaus”. Auch diesmal hat Ginger für die Rückseite wieder die restlichen Stoffe des Tops verwendet und sogar einen überzähligen Block.

Carol made this gorgeous Tulips quilt using blue and grey batiks on a white background. The quilting design she chose is called “Daisy Duo”. Although it is hard to see in the pictures we used variegated thread on this one. I am not a big fan of variegated thread, it rarely looks as good as people think it will but if you have a white or black (or dark blue) background, then a variegated thread can really shine, and Carol’s quilt was one of those rare examples where I agreed this might work.

Als Quiltmuster hat sie sich “Daisy Duo” ausgesucht, und es ist zwar auf den Bildern schlecht zu erkennen, aber wir haben Farbverlaufsgarn zum Quilten verwendet. Normalerweise bin ich nicht so ein Fan von Variegated Threads, weil das Ergebnis meist viel weniger toll aussieht, als die Leute es sich vorstellen. Aber bei Quilts, die einen weißen oder schwarzen (oder dunkelblauen) Hintergrund haben, funktioniert das oft viel besser, so dass ich bei Carols Quilt durchaus ihre Meinung teilte, dass sich das hier lohnen würde.

Das Tulpenmuster ist eine Log Cabin-Variation, und Carols Quilt hat mich daran erinnert, dass einer meiner ersten Quilts ein ähnliches Muster hatte. Ich habe nur ein einziges Photo davon gefunden (den Quilt habe ich damals meiner Mutter geschenkt). Kann es wirklich schon 20 Jahre her sein, dass ich das genäht habe? Das war im Frühjahr 1999, der Quilt hat Doppelbettgröße und ein dickes Polyestervlies, und ich habe alles mit der Hand im Nahtschatten gequiltet. Das würde ich heute auch nicht wieder versuchen 🙂

The tulip block is a log cabin variation, and Carol’s quilt reminded me of one of my first quilts that had a similar block. This is the only picture I found (I gave the finished quilt to my mom back then), and I can’t really believe that I made this 20 years ago. I worked on it in early 1999, I don’t remember the exact size but it was big, definitely in the queen size range. It had a high loft polyester batting, and I quilted everything by hand and in the ditch. I definitely do not recommend trying this 🙂

Cathy and her quilting friends in Alberta swapped the blocks in this quilt a few years ago, and Cathy decided it was time to finally finish this project before moving back to Alberta later this year. The pantograph I used is called “Ginger Star”, and Cathy even found a fabric in her stash that worked well for the backing.

Die Blöcke in diesem Quilt stammen aus einem Swap, den Cathy vor ein paar Jahren mit ihren Quilt-Freundinnen in Alberta organisiert hat. Nachdem sie nun in diesem Jahr wieder nach Alberta ziehen wird, fand sie, dass es nun an der Zeit wäre, dieses Projekt endlich zu beenden. Gequiltet habe ich mit dem Muster “Ginger Star”, und Cathy fand sogar einen passenden Stoff für die Rückseite in ihren Vorräten.

This is Karen’s version of the “Beginner’s Sampler”, based on the book by local authors Marla Pinchin and Myrna Wilson. They teach this quilt as a class at the local quilt shop, and this is the third version I have quilted. They all look so different, depending on the colour choices. Karen went with green fabrics for her quilt, and she chose a pantograph with leaves called “Ground Cover” for the quilting.

Das Design ist aus dem gleichnamigen Buch von Marla Pinchin und Myrna Wilson, die diesen Quilt als Anfängerkurs hier vor Ort unterrichten, daher ist das jetzt bereits die dritte Version dieses Quilts, die mir zum Quilten übergeben wurde. Durch die unterschiedliche Farbwahl sehen sie aber alle ganz verschieden aus. Karen hat sich für grüne Stoffe entschieden, und passend dazu wählte sie ein Quiltmuster mit Blättern aus, das “Ground Cover” heißt.
