Here is another one of Karen’s quilts, I am assuming this one was made from a Layer Cake as well, and I quite like the positive/negative effect of the layout. If you click on the thumbnails you can see that one of the fabrics had tiny stars in circles which inspired the use of the “Ginger Star” pantograph.
After Christmas is before Christmas, right? So here is a look at another holiday quilt, this one made by Karen. Doesn’t the layout look like stacked gift boxes? A wonderful idea for a Christmas quilt. The pantograph we used is called Holly Berries, an easy choice given that there were holly-themed fabrics in the quilt.

Karen used an easy Layer Cake pattern by Yoan Sewing Studio that was run as a Quilt Along in 2019, with a YouTube video and everything. After a year of monkey blocks, I finally present the full Monkey Business pattern, all twelve blocks including finishing instructions for those who missed most or all of the free downloads. I had fun custom quilting the monkey blocks and tried to find a background filler for each block that works with the general theme of what the monkey is doing. The sashing and border fabrics are quite busy so the quilting isn’t very visible but overall I am very happy with the result. Bright and beautiful, just the way I like it!

This quilt is the next of Sharon’s works, and she even designed this one herself, following the requests of the family member she made it for. There are lots of open spaces to be filled with quilting, and the “Feathered Curls” pattern she chose works well with the traditional blocks.
This is the next quilt that Sharon made last year for Christmas to be gifted. Isn’t she just fabulous? When I first started quilting, it took me a while before I attempted anything with triangles, and I have been very impressed by her rapid progress. The pantograph we used for this quilt is called “Overlapping Crop Circles”. It works very well with straight geometric patterns and adds great texture.
Lyn made this cute autumn quilt a few years ago and finally got around to finishing it. I had the perfect panto called “Meandering Pumpkin Patch”. I bought it when I first started my business, because of the name, of course, and this was the first time I was able to use it.
Mary made this set of cute matching baby quilts. The feature fabric has exotic animals, and we both thought of faraway countries and sunshine and picked the pantograph “Sun Scallops” to finish Mary’s projects.
Kathy made this Moose quilt as a gift for a friend. Have you ever wondered what to do with a panel, how to make it more interesting without losing the overall image? By cutting up the moose panel into squares and then putting the squares back together as attic window blocks Kathy created a wonderful illusion of scenery outside a window. “Deer in the Woods” which has not only deer but also a bear and a moose and trees was the perfect quilting design for Kathy’s quilt.
Well, last week turned out to be a bit wild with the flooding and mudslides in Southern BC, and I didn’t find the time to write another post. While we were not affected by the water directly, we couldn’t get out of Chilliwack for a few days because all the roads were closed, and I had to postpone an urgent medical appointment in Abbotsford until we finally made it there driving the Lougheed Highway on Friday.
Another week, another chance, and I am feeling much calmer now, so back to our regularly scheduled program. I am way behind in posting pictures, all of these I am posting right now were actually quilted a year ago. This is the next of Sharon’s quilts. After her first one was such a success, she set out to make quilts for her family for Christmas and probably broke a record in speed sewing. For this lovely blue and white quilt she chose “Melange” as the quilting design.
Darlene is the “Bargello Queen” among my customers, and whenever she ventures out of her Bargello comfort zone, she comes up with another amazing quilt like this one. Isn’t it just fabulous? This modern quilt needed a modern quilting pattern, and all those circles were asking for something not too curvy. “Ripples on Point” with its soft, wavy lines creates a great secondary pattern of squares on point and was just perfect for Darlene’s project.
